James Sutton stars in male rape awareness video

14 02 2014

Actor James Sutton has joined forces with the Ministry of Justice to star in a new video which hopes to help break the silence over the issue of male rape and sexual abuse.

Sutton, whose on screen Hollyoaks character John Paul McQueen was sexually attacked by Finn O'Connor, one of his school students, said 'The reason it was so important for Hollyoaks to feature a male rape storyline is because it is so rarely talked about. The overriding message from survivors I met while researching the role was that victims of male sexual violence do not know where to go for help and support'. The government has announced it will pledge £500k over the next year to provide services including advice and counselling to help male victims.
